World University Rankings 2023 by subject: education

The education subject table uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

It highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: education, teacher training, and academic studies in education.

This year’s table includes 655 universities, up from 596 last year.

Stanford University leads the table for the sixth consecutive year. It is joined in the top three by the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University. These three US-based institutions maintain their order from last year.

The rest of the top 10 sees a different order from last year, with the University of Hong Kong rising one spot to fifth place, and China’s Peking University rising one spot to seventh. Michigan State University is its only new addition, climbing three spots to ninth.

This year’s only newcomer is Purdue University West Lafayette, which makes its debut at 78th (joint with the UK’s University of Nottingham).
